This is however a difficult way to begin your shopify business even though its very profitable.
The second way to start a business on shopify is through dropshipping.
This is by far the easiest and most convenient, and it’s what I’d recommend if you’re just starting out with shopify.
In a dropshipping business you do not have to create or own the product you are going to be selling on your store.
How Dropshipping with Shopify Works
Once you have beautifully set up your shopify store, to get great products at very fair prices, you then go over to China top and reliable B2B online selling platforms like Chinabrands, dhgate or aliexpress.
Search for products that you’d want to sell, as soon as you find such products, you’ll have to contact the suppliers.
Thereafter you’ll copy and place the details of the products you will be selling on your online store.
Such details will include, product name, description, price etc.
Kindly note that the price you will display on your store won’t be the product price you saw on aliexpress, you have the liberty to set your own product price on your shopify store.
This would allow you to conveniently pay your supplier for the products, PayPal or other payment gateways has made their deductions, you’ll still have some good bucks left to pay yourself as profit.
Here you don’t have to be bothered about how to ship your products to your customers, the suppliers will take care of all the shipping arrangement and inventory of the product until it gets to your customers.

When starting your business, do your research to choose top selling products and after this try to find out countries where such products sell more.

- Open a shopify store

To begin, you need to create an account. You can open one within 5 minutes.
I’ll quickly explain how to open shopify account, so even if its your first time on the site, you can still open your store yourself.
First follow this LINK to their home page and click on the “start free trial” button
Register by filling all required space. At successful registration, a confirmation link will be sent to your email from Shopify, click on this link and you’d be redirected to the shopify site.
After that’s done login to your account and click on create store. choose the product you want to sell and select a theme for your store.
- Open PayPal account
Set up a Merchant or PayPal Vendor Account
A merchant account with a credit card company will allow you to accept different types of credit and debit card payments directly from your customers.
Before deciding to set up a merchant account however, try and find out about all the fees attached to the account and read the terms and conditions carefully.
On the other hand, you can accept your customers’ card payments by using a third-party payment processor, such as PayPal. If you decide to use PayPal, the next step would be opening a PayPal vendor account in the US.
PayPal Express Checkout in Nigeria
PayPal is one of Shopify’s default payment method or provider, as soon as you open a store, you are given a PayPal express check out account, all you’ve got to do is to link your PayPal account to your store.
How to link your PayPal account to your Shopify store
From the “settings” section of your shopify store dashboard, select “payment method ” and you can always link your PayPal account to your shopify store and receive payments.
If you are in a country like Nigeria, you might be restricted to opening a personal PayPal account.
Sadly, this type of PayPal account cannot receive payment only send or make purchases online.
Unfortunately you can’t use this type of account for your shopify store.

- Link your PayPal account to your Business Bank Account (if you have need for one).
Once your business is incorporated, opening a US business bank account is straightforward, even if you’re not a US resident.

- Decide on and Purchase a Domain Name
A domain name is the name you want your store to be identified with, it’s the link address that will bring customers to your Shopify store.
Begin to think of possible domain names for your Shopify store, try as much as possible to relate this name to the products you’ll be selling in your store.
A good example is mynamestore.com, myproductstore.com etc but it’s going to have dot Shopify dot com at the end of your domain name.
In the case of the above store is will read as myproductstore.shopify.com but to remove dot shopify dot com, you’d have to buy a new domain name.
Although you can start selling products with your dot shopify dot com store, a domain name makes your store professional and branded
Try to select a domain name suffix that identifies your business with the country or countries you are targeting customers in, such as .com or .us.
Choose a Shopify Pricing Plan
Shopify offers different pricing plans with payments being made either monthly or annually. Choose the plan that best meets your needs you can also change plans as your business grows.
Using the shopify e-commerce platform for your online business come with a price. There are in three simple plans to choose from:
All shopify plans comes with a 14 day free trial hence you only start paying for a subscription plan after you have used the service for 14 days.
Enough time to make enough money to pay for the subscription.
Basic – $29 per month
Standard- $79 per month
Advanced – $299 per month
There are also two additional plans that you can subscribe to,
Shopify lite ($9 per month) and
The latter two are rarely used and
so they aren’t very popular.

With this super helpful app you get the idea of who you should be promoting your products to more often and where you should spend more money and efforts with marketing and to avoid those places that’s not driving enough sales nor producing tangible results.

How to get traffic and sales for your shopify store
At this point your store is already online, you’ve added a couple of products to it, integrated a couple of payment gateways to receive payments from your customer’s, you’re much eager to make your first couple of sales.
But the big question is:
How do you get people to know your store even exist in the first place, How do you get your products in front of your potential customers?
How do you promote your shopify store?
The first thing I encourage everyone that’s starting out with shopify, is to install the Facebook pixel app from day one, long before you’ve made any sales.
Allow this app to run in your store background and it will tell you in the new future (after a few sales) the demographics of people who have bought and are most likely to buy your products, these are called Look-alike audience.
Although I do not encourage Facebook ads as a beginner on shopify, I will always tell you to create a Facebook fan page for your store immediately after your store is online. Include your brand name and appropriate Facebook profile picture that suits your products and store.
After you’ve set this up, wait until your installed pixel app has given you enough details of look-alike audience ( ideally not less than 100 datas) then and only then you can now launch a Facebook ad linking them to the cheapest product available at your store.
This is to lure traffic to your store. Because once a product is bought, there is a probability that they will come back for more and this can easily grow your brand too.
But before you have a tangible pixel app data, you can promote your products for free on your Facebook page.
You can also set up a unique Instagram page for your products.
You can also reach out to Instagram influencers in your chosen product niche to help you promote your products.
